Painter Jean Paul Langlois has been working on a series of paintings, “Fake Indians”. His work looks at the long tradition within Hollywood of disregarding Native Americans and their traditions. Many of the films that fascinate Langlois were filmed in the 60’s and 70’s and had non Native American actors playing Native Americans. The paintings are recreations of stills from a selection of films starring actors such as Burt Reynolds and William Shatner.
Recently during the filming of Adam Sandlers’s new film commissioned by Netflix, many of these issues were raised.
